CLAUDE NIQUET. Cal. 64. S# NSN. The 9" swamped round barrel is unmarked. Early flint lock with round bodied arched plate is fitted with serpentine cock, inset semi-waterproof pan, bridled friction frizzen and feather spring with ball and spear finial. Center of plate is engraved "CLAUDE NIQUET" "A'LIEGE" (working ca 1736). Dense European walnut stock with birds head grip extends to muzzle and is pinned to barrel. Raised mouldings are around most components and they are augmented by relief carved scrolls and fleur-de-lis behind barrel tang and thimble. Mounts are brass and relatively plain except for full relief plate at top of grip. Non-original steel ramrod mounts through beaded brass pipe and matching thimble. CONDITION: good. Iron and steel showing cleaning and re-coloring to lightly pitted silver gray. Stock has most of an old finish with oil rubbed in over many marks. Brass with old cleaning is mustard yellow. Dark pitted bore. Lock is operable. PROVENANCE: Estate Collection of Nicholas Apergis. (01-27436/MGM). ANTIQUE. $1,200-1,800.
