This beautiful mahogany chest houses 6 bottles in each of the swinging doors & 5 larger bottles on the top shelf. Bottles are open pontiled, most w/ original labels & have ground glass stoppers. The bottom drawer has 8 more smaller glass bottles along w/ an 1832 dated “MEDICINE CHEST COMPANION” book. There is also a later book that appears to be some sort of almanac. The top drawer has 4 porcelain salve jars w/ original labels. The right drawer has a sm. iron ball & a snuff box. The left drawer has a key for the box. Box measures 11 5/8" x 13" x 7 3/4" & has a brass handle at the top. CONDITION: the box itself is in fine condition w/ the exception of the 2 handles on the larger drawers which are broken. Most bottles are perfect but at least 3 have chipped lips. An extraordinary early chest. (02-14404/BF). $1,000-1,500.
