RIFLE. Cal. 243 Win. S# 3929. Bbl. 26" medium weight without sights. Mfg. 1968 (1967 to date) with early correct features: welded forend hangar electro engraved "HB" plus forend screw goes directly into hangar rather than later examples with floating cross pin, matching numbered Alex Henry forend ink stamp dated "FEB. 26 68", buttstock with early grip checkering that is narrow at mid point plus sweeps back at bottom, rounded edged red pad, wrap around forend checkering, sling bases (buttstock and barrel band) and matching numbered breech block. Only 1,255 non prefix serial numbered No. 1's were made in 243 Win. and of those, only 147 in this configuration. Factory scope rings on its quarter rib holding Leupold M8-10X AO gloss finished scope having fine Duplex reticle. CONDITION: amount of use has removed almost all stock finish leaving satin appearance with slight gloss at very tip of forend; very good checkering. Cleaned oxidation and light pitting on barrel at stock line; active oxidation around top tang, but not at rear of receiver like "salt wood" examples. Occasional small spots of peppery oxidation throughout; especially in protected areas. Spotty finish loss on left side of receiver. Noticeable finish loss on grip cap and thinning from use on finger lever. Bore is near excellent as is scope. Fine candidate for factory metal refinishing plus rejuvenation of stock set. Seldom seen model in good all-around caliber. PROVENANCE: Estate of Russell Dickerman. (25-1979/NW). CURIO. $1,200-1,800.
