SETS. Cal. 12 Ga., 2 5/8". S# 7904. (CA 1908). The 30" barrel set with matted rib is engraved "Fluid Steel Made To Order" "By A. H. Fox Gun Co. Phila. U.S.A." on tops. Second 28" barrel set has similar rib but "To Order" and "By" are not in barrel legend. Both barrel sets are engraved with 3" triangles of scroll at breech ends. 30" barrels have S# engraved on otherwise unmarked barrel flats. 28" barrels are stamped with S# "2" and "D". Case hardened early Fox action with classic rotary bolt has S# engraved on watertable. Patent dates are also engraved. Action is fitted with early style ejectors with large diameter trip pins. Action features automatic safety and double triggers and is engraved in early "D" style with near full coverage, open shaded scroll with some geometric borders which surrounds game scenes. Feeding quail are on left and rabbits on right. A pair of pointing setters under a large tree are on bottom of action. "ANSLEY H. FOX" is above each game scene. Blued trigger guard with scroll on bow has S# on tang. Replacement buttstock of well figured and streaked European walnut measures 15 1/4" over Silver type pad, side panels are checkered and grip checkering is in "D" pattern. Matching splinter forends are nearly fully checkered, forend for 30" barrels is stamped with S# and engraved "PATENTS PENDING". Forend for 28" barrels has some border engraving on iron and is stamped "PATENTS PENDING" and with S# along with "2". MEASUREMENTS: 30" BBLS: Bore Diameter: L .730". R .731". CONDITION: fine as refurbished. Both barrel sets retaining nearly all rust reblue. Action retains nearly all of case hardening recolor that is rather drab. Newer buttstock retains nearly all of its hand rubbed oil finish with a few light scratches. Checkering is lightly worn, checkering of original forend wood recut, wood refinished.
