This late 18th or early 19th century belt knife measures 15 3/8” overall with an 11 1/8” double-edged blade. The blade has a raised medial ridge with some incised markings near the hilt. It has a brass S-shaped guard with drop quillons on each side. The ferrule and pommel cap are simple formed sheet brass. The grip is spirally carved wood. No sheath. CONDITION: blade has a dark, mottled patina, with a trace of very light pitting. Guard, ferrule, and pommel all have a dark, ancient patina. Grip is quite worn but intact, with one drying crack.
