"KING-WACH-BELL". Cal. 78. NSN. Bbl. 42 1/4" oct. to rnd., engraved "KING-WACH-BELL" on top flat. Early lock w/ arched flat plate has removable pan & is fitted w/ flat flint cock w/ notch at back which is engaged by secondary pivoting dog. Unbridled frizzen engages nicely filed feather spring w/ dbl. waisted bulbous finial. Red stained maple stock is iron mounted. Trigger guard w/ spear finial has filed in flutes in bow & is attached w/ screws. Well shaped blacksmith made sideplate attaches to lock w/ 3 screws. Sheet iron buttplate has long shaped top tang w/ tip secured by nail. Stock has deeply cut flutes to comb & a wonderful sweep to toeline of butt. Stock extends to w/ in 1 1/2" of muzzle & attaches to bbl. w/ pins. What appears to be original hickory ramrod is held by 2 banded steel pipes & matching thimble. CONDITION: very good to fine. Metal parts w/ overall brown patina, uncleaned. Stock has nearly all original red wash on what are mostly uncleaned surfaces except for lg. repair on right side, which begins at area in front of frizzen w/ lg. replaced piece approx. 14" long along bbl. channel. It continues w/ 2 other let in pieces along relatively straight split line. This repair is fairly well done. Lock is operable & complete. An early American piece w/ a great look & remarkable original condition. PROVENANCE: The Estate Collection of Gary Parietti. (01-19066/MGM). ANTIQUE. $4,000-6,000.
