14" Overall, 9 1/2" blade, 2" wide, 7 1/16" thick. This is another massive blade w/ short 2.5" clip w/ beveled top edge, reminiscent of the earliest fighting knives described in American literature. This knife has a wood handle w/ 2 lg. iron ferrules which do not seem fitting for this blade, though peen is well patinaed. In my opinion, this blade would originally have had a truer bowie grip & blade repurposed for continued use. Current grip is reminiscent of some 19th century tool handles. CONDITION: good to very good overall, iron patina, pitting, hand worn patina to wood. PROVENANCE: From the Robert Vines Collection. (02-15314-11/JS). $800-1,200.
