D-GUARD SHORT SWORD. “Knife or sword measures 28” with 22” dagger pointed blade. The tang runs through the “D” shape iron guard and was force fitted into the stag handle. The blade is flat on one side and has a median ridge running its full length with both edges sharpened. This is probably a variation of the “Confederate “D” guard bowie used during the Civil War with the unusual stag handle.” CONDITION: very good “as found”, iron patina, appears to be missing ferrule between grip and guard. Many small nicks in cutting edge from use. Stag has nice hand worn patina. PROVENANCE: Pictured on page 172 “Accoutrements IV” by Jim Johnston. (02-16783/JS). $1,000-2,000.
