ARMORY M1A SEMI-AUTO RIFLE. Cal. 7.62mm. S# 002445. Bbl. 25" over flash hider with bayonet lug. Consignor supplied information estimates production in October 1974. Early Springfield Armory M1A rifle, built in Devine, Texas by Springfield Armory as owned by Elmer Balance, prior to being sold to Bob Reese & relocating to Geneseo, Illinois. Receiver marked; "U.S. RIFLE / 7.62-MM M1A / SPRINGFIELD / ARMORY" above serial number 002445. Barrel marked "NM" on top, 2.5" rear of flash hider & "CA7791362 6 67 C8549 MP" on side. Protected, tapered blade front sight marked "NM062". Rear sight marked "NM / 2A" w/ peep marked "595". Bolt marked "7790186 / Z1C", & stenciled "002445". Trigger housing marked "7267030 66118". Hammer marked "C46008-2 SA". USGI M14 stock, bedded. Marked serial number "002445" in barrel channel. Tan leather Springfield sling. MAGS: 1 Steel Check-Mate 10rd. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Black plastic foam lined case, photo of Data Sheet for rifle matching all visible markings, illustrating build date October 1974 in Devine, Texas. CONDITION: finish complete & consistent w/ some light thinning in areas of mechanical intervention & around scope mount. Action lightly coated w/ grease. All markings filled white for easy reading. Stock in nice condition w/ a few typical impressions as well as a few heavier impressions on right side, forward of action. Bright bore w/ strong rifling. Fire control mechanism appears to function correctly when cycled by hand. (23-5439/JZ). MODERN. $2,000-3,000.
