4000 SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL. Cal. 22 LR. S# 790939. Bbl. 3 3/4". One of 1,731 chrome-plated Model 4000 (designated M4001) semi-automatic pistols mfg. in Spain by Astra. This example, mfg. circa. 1956, is marked with the Astra logo over the top of the slide towards the muzzle, with the model and cal. designations, as well as Astra's mfg. information marked towards the rear. Metal components exhibit a chrome-plated finish overall, save for on the bbl., which is polished in-the-white. Frame is mounted with 2-piece faux pearl grips. Blade front sight with dovetailed square notch rear sight. All serialized parts are matching, including the frame, slide, and bbl. MAGS: one 9-rd. CONDITION: fine, with metal components retaining bountiful amounts of their original factory chrome finish overall, exhibiting some light superficial handling marks, with a small area of very light bubbling and flaking present on the heel of the back strap, as well as on the butt. Mirror bore, exhibiting well-defined rifling throughout. Grips show some superficial marks from handling and storage, with a small chip present on the left grip at the top of the panel. A fine example of an early production factory chrome-plated Astra Model 4000 pistol. PROVENANCE: from the lifelong collection of Bill Peterken. (24-6246/MLW). CURIO. $600-1,100.
