SHOT RIFLE. Cal. 45-70. S# 1003. Bbl. 30" octagon. Combination front sight with elevator adjustable V notch rear sight. Brass tipped hardwood wiping rod is held by 2 faceted pipes. Early style frame without the rebated ledge has heavy double set triggers with large protruding trigger plate and ring lever. Screw fastened forearm has ebony tip insert. Early style stock has deeply curved crescent buttplate. Mfg. 1876-1891. CONDITION: metal finish is fading to a light brown patina showing scattered handling marks. Refinished forearm is cracked at tip. Refinished stock shows dents and marks with cracks extending from the action and buttplate. Sound action with functioning set triggers. Hammer spur has welded repair. Lightly pitted bore retains intact rifling. PROVENANCE: Estate Collection of Thomas F. Wolfinger. (01-22163/DS). ANTIQUE. $1,500-2,500.
