CARBINE. Cal. 6.5 Jap. S# 3128. Bbl. 19". Blade front sight with protective ears. Ladder rear sight graduated to 2000m. Early Tokyo arsenal Type 38 Arisaka carbine. Bayonet lug, floorplate, rear sight adjustment tab, bolt handle, and safety all bear assembly number "810". Rear sight ladder has an additional assembly number that matches itself. Extractor, firing pin, and bolt release appear unnumbered. Receiver top has fully intact mum and Type 38 markings. Left side of receiver has serial number and Tokyo Arsenal marking. Blued finish with strawed small parts. Asian hardwood stock set with two-piece butt and left side sling swivels. Underside of butt has several Kanji inspection stamps. Cleaning rod present. CONDITION: stock retains much Urushi finish with a small crack behind upper tang, scattered dings, and handling wear. Metal retains 60% arsenal blue with trigger guard having a silvery appearance, overall fading to gray, and oxidation on bottom metal. Barreled action and bands show scattered light oxidation, edge wear, and fading. Action functions properly when hand-cycled. Very good, bright bore with strong rifling. (24-6006/MJC). CURIO. $400-600.
