INSCRIBED. Cal. 7.63mm S# 12408. Earliest Mauser Lg. Ring production that was assembled using Conehammer frames & trigger groups, this example having a 5.5" bbl, fixed front sight & pinned rear sight graduated 50-500. Long extractor, independently secured firing pin, lg. ring hammer. Chamber marked w/ usual Mauser address Crown/"C"/"U" on left side of bbl. extension; antler proof on right. In keeping w/ this pistol's export to England, British proofs are now on the right side of the bbl. extension including "NOT ENGLISH MADE" within hash marks that overlie the antler proof. Additional British proofs on the side of the bolt & frame just above the subframe lug. Ownership inscription "W. BASS" under the bbl. Major components rust blued. Most minor components fire blued; bolt, hammer, subframe & trigger in the white. Serrated walnut grips. Lanyard ring present. Disassembly shows all matching S#s including the sight bar & each of the grips. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: CONDITION: 97% original rust blue. 70% fire blued small parts w/ noticeable loss on the extractor & most of the finish having faded from the cursor. Comparable condition grips w/ oil darkening & scattered handling dings. Bright bore w/ sharp rifling. Perfect manual mechanics. A very attractive early Large Ring Transitional pistol w/ Conehammer components, especially nice as it is an antique! (01-21639/LMA). ANTIQUE. $4,000-6,000.
