PROOFED. Cal. 7.63mm. S# 12248. Mauser made relatively few Large Ring Transitional pistols that were serial numbered in the Conehammer range & assembled using a number of Conehammer parts, including the bolt & frame. This gun, one of the first, has a 5.5" bbl. with a fixed front sight & a pinned rear sight graduated from 50-500. Long extractor, independently secured firing pin, early variation safety. The usual Mauser address on top of chamber. Crown/“C”/“U” marking on left side of bbl. extension; antler proof on the right side. The full serial number is on the back of the frame & repeated on the all the usual major & minor parts, including sight bar, firing pin, locking block & each of the grip panels. After export to England, the gun was British proofed with the test information applied to the left side of the bbl., additional British proofing on the left frame, just above & below the subframe lug. Fitted with serrated walnut grips. Non-factory lanyard ring. Major components are rust blued. Most of the small parts are fire blued or in-the-white. CONDITION: approx. 90% original rust blue with fading around the bbl., front of the mag. well, & grip straps. Comparable condition fire blued parts that show no evidence of enhancement. Grips retain much of their original varnish / oil staining, over handling marks. Dull bore w/ easily discernible rifling. Perfect manual mechanics. A very attractive, all original & all matching Mauser C96 that should please any collector, especially nice that it is antique. (01-21576/LMA). ANTIQUE.$4,000-6,000.
