9.5”overall, 5.5” spearpoint blade with sharpened top edge, stamped “M. PRICE / SAN FRANCISCO”. This mark is scarce and thought to be his earliest and stamped lengthwise on blade instead of ricasso. 1.2” small oval silver crossguard, sculpted walrus ivory handle, silver capstan rivet. CONDITION: good to very good overall, blade is cleaned and toned to grey with scattered pitting. Maker’s mark is very good with minor reductions on front edge. Grip has longitudinal age cracks on either side that appear stabilized by the addition of two iron pins during its period of use. The accompanying silver scabbard with proper style spring steel belt loop appears to be a well-crafted reproduction that fits knife perfectly. PROVENANCE: ex-Jack Royce collection, ex-Dave Kleiner, ex-Josh Phillips collection. (02-19363/JS). $5,000-7,000.
