FLINTLOCK MUSKET. Cal. 72. NSN. Bbl. 43 3/4" oct. to ovate, has “H” eagle “L” proof on upper left flat. Early style dog lock w/ flat plate has border engraving at plate & reinforced cock & also features bridled friction frizzen & feather spring w/ spear finial. There are some cyrillic markings on front part of lock. Walnut stock w/ distinctive outline to butt extends to muzzle & is pinned to bbl. Stock shows attractive fluting at grip transition to butt & there is punched in leaf decoration around bbl. tang & shorter leaf decoration around trigger guard tang. Furniture is brass & appears to be blacksmith made. CONDITION: fair to good, bbl. w/ old dark brown patina, what is probably replaced lock is cleaned to silver & brown w/ light pitting. Stock is nicely hand worn at grip & thimble in old, very dark finish. Brass of buttplate is worn through at heel from what appears to be normal use. There is a 6" piece of replaced wood in front of lockplate tapering from mounting screw upward & forward toward bbl. channel. There are other repairs along bbl. channel & some losses on left side. Front 9" are replaced. Lock screws are replaced & quite new. Bore is poor, lock inoperable. (01-19178/MGM). ANTIQUE. $1,000-1,500.
