Cal. 12 Ga. 2-1/2". S# 170. Made around 1868 and probably one of the first guns to bear the Parker Bros name; this is a good example of the $100 gun listed in the first Parker catalog. It has 30" barrels engraved "Parker Bros Makers Meriden Conn Laminated Steel" on narrow game rib. Barrels have Birmingham provisional proofs on bottoms and sides of flats are brazed on. S# is on rear lump. Round bodied lifter action with pin that extends through top is fitted with back spring locks having non-rebounding hammers. Action, locks and hammers have some border engraving and small sprays of scroll on top tang. Patent date is stamped on trigger plate. S# is not on trigger guard tang. Lightly fiddle figured American walnut straight grip stock measure 13-5/8" over steel buttplate. Grip is checkered. Matching splinter forend with steel tip has S# stamped on sidebolt that slips through oval steel escutcheons. MEASUREMENTS: BBLS: Bore Diameter: L .746. R .744. Restriction: L .000 (cyl). R .000 (cyl). Wall thickness: L .030. R .030. STOCK: DAH: 2-1/4". DAC: 1-9/16". CAST: neutral. LOP: 13-5/8. WEIGHT: 7 lb. 10 oz. CONDITION: fair to good. All metal shows cleaning to silver gray. Traces of barrel finish and case hardening color remain. Wood shows considerable wear but does not appear to be refinished. Checkering considerably worn. Pitch has been changed with the addition of a tapered shim on butt. A 2" sliver of wood is missing from forend tip. Bores are good; mostly shiny with some light pitting on breech end of right barrel. Barrels also show 3-4 minor dents about 7" back from muzzles. Action is tight with forend in place; a bit shaky with forend removed. Locks are good. (01-26979/MGM). ANTIQUE. $1,000-2,000.
