PREFIX HIGH POWER SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL. Cal. 9mm Luger. S# A15978. Bbl. 4 5/8". High Power semi-automatic pistol mfg. by Fabrique Nationale in 1944, shortly after liberation from Germany. The left side of the slide is marked with Belgian proofs (unusually located towards the front), followed by "FABRIQUE NATIONALE D'ARMES DE GUERRE/ HERSTAL BELGIQUE/ BROWNING'S PATENT DEPOSE". Frame, slide, and bbl. exhibit Belgian commercial proofs. Metal components exhibit a professionally reapplied blue finish overall, save for on the bbl., which is polished in-the-white. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered wood grips, which feature red anti-moisture barrier paint on the interior of the panels. Thumbprint slide features a fixed half-moon blade front sight, with a dovetailed U-notch rear sight. All serialized parts are matching in the "stacked" fashion and include the frame, slide, and bbl. MAGS: 1 blued 13-rd., with blued split tail floorplate. CONDITION: excellent, as professionally refinished, with metal components retaining the vast majority of their reapplied blue finish, exhibiting some light to mild wear and thinning on edges, some spots of light pitting beneath the bluing, as well as some softening to the factory markings. Underside of slide rails exhibit mild pitting beneath the bluing. Grip straps exhibit consistent light pitting. Bore is bright, exhibiting consistent mild to moderate pitting, while retaining strong rifling throughout. Grips show some smoothing, as well as some scattered superficial marks from handling and storage, but otherwise remain sturdy and serviceable. PROVENANCE: The Estate Collection of Charles Wagner. (25-403/MLW). CURIO. $1,200-1,800.
