BOLT ACTION MILITARY RIFLE. Cal. 30-06. S# 539. Bbl. 26". Replacement barrel marked behind front sight "HS / flaming bomb / P" indicating manufacture by High Standard. Ladder rear sight graduated to 1,600 yards. Blade front sight with protective ears. Spring is marked "E". Winchester marked bolt assembly. Bolt handle has both "W" and "flaming bomb". Early production receiver retains its blued finish. Is marked "U.S. / W / 539". Left rail is marked on top with "A / 26" and marked on left side with "flaming bomb" and encircled "five pointed star" indicating rifle was not to be shipped overseas. Safety, rear sight spring and bolt stop marked "E". Walnut stock set. Stock is marked on the tip of forend with "W". Stock is marked on left side with boxed "SSAA" indicating overhaul at San Antonio arsenal and marked under grip with boxed "P" proof. Model 1907 leather sling with brass hooks is marked "R-S / GMS". Sling has wear and cracking. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: plastic oiler in butt. CONDITION: stock set has arsenal rework type finish with moderate wear and handling marks throughout. Metal retains most of its original blue finish with light wear. Four groove bore has worn lands with areas of frosting and light pitting. (25-5466/RW). CURIO. $600-900.
