RIFLE ENGRAVED BY MAGIS, RISAK & RICHELLE. Cal. 243 Win. S# 2P15079 (1962). This fine Olympian grade rifle has 22" lightweight barrel with all correct markings which is not fitted for iron sights. Coin finished small ring FN action has bolt with long extractor and hinged floorplate with release in trigger guard bow. Action is engraved in usual Olympian style with a background of well cut shaded acanthus scroll surrounding game scenes. A running pronghorn is on left side of receiver ring and a feeding mule deer is on right. Floorplate is engraved with a mountain lion perched in bare tree branches and the head of a mountain goat is on trigger guard bow. Pronghorn scene is signed "M. Magis", lion "R. Risak" and trigger guard "DR" (Denise Richelle). Rosewood capped pistol grip stock with Monte Carlo comb made of a very fine piece of crotch figured Claro walnut measures 13-7/8" over Browning buttplate and features swept righthand cheekpiece, rosewood forend tip, white line spacers, sling studs, recoil bolt and gold rectangle in pistol grip cap. Closely spaced checkering at grip and forend has fancy border and is flanked by relief carved acanthus scroll in stippled background as usually found on Olympian grade rifles. CONDITION: exceptionally fine. Action and barrel retain nearly all original factory finishes with only a very few minor marks and some discoloration from congealed oil. There is a scattering of marks in original finish of stock and checkering has slightly darkened. It appears that this non-salt era rifle has had butt section of stock under water for a time, some lifting of wood grain and varnish is evident and heavy rust is visible on buttplate screws and sling stud. These rusted parts are movable and easily replaced. Three plug screws are missing from top of action. Bore is bright and shiny. Mechanically fine. (24-4157/MGM). CURIO. $5,000-8,000.
