A superb example of a circa 1836-1846 Republic of Texas Artillery cuff button. Albert # TX-8-Av. Buttons of this type were used by the Republic of Texas military & also found their way into service w/ Confederate troops from the State of Texas 15 years later. Face depicts the Lone Star of Texas w/ the letter “A” superimposed on the star. Below the star are crossed cannons & the word, “TEXAS”. The reverse is marked, “SCOVILLS . * . * . “. Full straight shank. CONDITION: button retains 90%+ of the original gilded finish. The reverse has a very slight push next to the shank. (02-16927-4/BF). $1,200-1,500.
