A superb example of a circa 1836-1846, Republic of Texas Staff Officer’s coat button. Buttons of this type were used by the Republic of Texas military & also found their way into service w/ Confederate troops from the State of Texas 15 years later. Albert # TX-7-A. Face depicts the Lone Star of Texas below the word, “TEXAS”. The reverse is marked, “J.M.L & W.H. SCOVILL * WATERBURY * EXTRA SUPERFINE (spray of leaves)”. Full straight shank. CONDITION: button retains virtually 100% of its original gilded finish. Likely one of the finest examples known. (02-16927-3/BF). $2,800-3,800.
