A fine example of a 17th or early 18th century Scottish basket hilt broadsword measuring 39" overall with a 32 1/2" double edged blade that is 1 3/4" wide at the hilt. The 3 fuller blade is likely of German origin and has 4 half-moon talismans stamped into the blade. Iron full basket hilt with a hemispherical 4 quadrant pommel. Wire wrapped sharkskin grip. No scabbard. CONDITION: blade is well worn with a mottled gray patina and a few minor nicks to edge. Hilt is strong and undamaged. Grip may not be original but is quite early. PROVENANCE: Estate Collection of Nicholas Apergis. (02-24710/BF). $2000-3000.
