Cal. 60. NSN Bbl. 11 1/4". The faceted to round barrel has a slight elongated brass front sight and lightly transitions to octagon as it nears the bolster. There are two brass line escutcheons at the base of the barrel just before the brass plated barrel tang. Interestingly, the lockplate is brass and is integral to the pan. Of course, the cock is iron, as is the frizzen. There is an elaborate brass trigger guard with flourished decoration throughout that matches the lockplate as well as the cock. The buttcap shares a similar decorative motif. There is an elaborately decorated crowned escutcheon at the wrist complimenting a brass sideplate, also decorated with flourishes. The entry thimble has similar decoration, however the ramrod thimble and the brass band near the muzzle may be early replacements. The wooden ramrod is likely a replacement for esthetic purposes. The stock may be a fruit wood and has never been altered. CONDITION: this pistol shows notable wear throughout but has thankfully remained unaltered. Iron shows a lightly cleaned gray patina. The brass has also been cleaned but has begun to acquire a mellow mustard patina. The lock holds both full and half cock easily. The wood is solid though, as expected, has a few dents, dings, and minor losses at the edges. Poor bore. ANTIQUE. (01-26829/BF). $600-900.
