SHOULDER STOCK. Cal. 30 Mauser. S# 3684. Bbl. 5 1/2". In order to compete with Mauser in China during its civil war, Astra developed its M900 series of C96-type pistols. This relatively early M900 has a 5 1/2" bbl. with a fixed front sight and a slip-in tangent rear sight graduated from 50-1000. It was fitted with a small ring hammer and has a single line sideplate address, though by this time, the frame had evolved to full size grip. The full S# appears on the left side of the frame just above the grip. The earliest automatic proof, the rearing lion, appears on the right side of the bbl., right side of the bbl. extension, and the right side of the frame in concert with the year code "A" (reflecting production in 1927) and the Eibar house proof. Fitted with correct Astra broadly serrated grips, each panel numbered "910" and bottom mounted lanyard ring. Limited disassembly shows a matching sideplate, cross pins, and floorplate. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: complimenting the pistol is an Astra shoulder stock whose S# has been removed from the lid and with an unmarked lug. CONDITION: pistol retains 90-95% of its original blue with sharp edge wear and speckling consistent with a gun that has spent some time in eastern Asia but rarely used. Comparable condition flecked discolorations on the fire blued small parts. Grips oil darkened with handling marks, more noticeable on the right panel. Bright bore with sharp rifling. Correct manual mechanics. Excellent stock and lid hinge. S# having been removed from lid as previously noted. Astra replacement lug is virtually new. A very good looking Astra 900 rig! (25-3427/LMA). CURIO. $2,000-3,000.
