Cal. 8x57 (8mm Mauser). S# 2992b. Bbl. 19". Blade front sight with replacement sight hood. Tangent rear sight graduated to 1000m. Early war mountain carbine. Matching numbers on receiver, stock, and bolt. Receiver top marked "945" for Waffen Werke Brunn I and dated 1940. Some of the receiver markings have added white highlight paint. Right side of receiver has eagle "63" Waffenamt. Walnut stock set with left side sling provisions and leather WWII German sling. Right side of butt has three eagle "63" Waffenamts. No cleaning rod is present. CONDITION: stock set shows some scraping from band removal. overall heavy wear from use, scattered dings, and handling wear. Metal is mostly a silvery-gray color with some dings and scattered traces of blue and oxidation. Action is very stiff, likely from grease buildup, but functional when hand-cycled. Bore shows scattered frosting and some light pitting but strong rifling. PROVENANCE: from the estate collection of Charles Wagner. (24-4625/MJC). CURIO. $2,000-2,500.
