SADDLE RING CARBINE. Cal. 44-40. S# 12901. Bbl. 20" band mounted blade front sight, with carbine leaf rear sight. Early first Model carbine, with original mortised coarse checkered thumbprint dust cover. Staple mounted saddle ring on left side of action. Full length mag. Blue finish, with case colored hammer and lever. Band fastened carbine forearm and straight grip walnut stock, with trapdoor carbine buttplate. Mfg. in 1876. CONDITION: metal finish has faded to mottled gray/brown, showing handling marks with areas of light pitting. Bottom of lever has a series of dents. Age darkened stocks, show dents and marks, with a visible crack on the left side of just below the heel. Lever latch fails to catch and latch the lever. Bore is generally bright, with strong rifling, showing occasional spots of very light pitting. (01-27063/DS). ANTIQUE. $3,500-5,000.
