RIFLE. Cal. 22 LR. S# 1838. Bbl. 28". Model 52 bolt action rifle mfg. by Winchester in 1924. Left side of the bbl. is marked with the Winchester trademark logo between the model and cal. designations, with Winchester's 2-line mfg. and patent information marked on the right. Left side of the receiver is marked with the S# "1838". Metal components exhibit a blue finish overall, save for on the bolt body, which is polished in-the-white. 1-piece pistol grip stock features added wrap around checkering at the forearm, 2 checkered panels at the wrist, an added shallow cheekpiece on the comb, as well as a grooved steel buttplate. Toeline of stock and underside of bbl. band feature sling swivels. Wood around the front and rear tangs of the trigger guard has been removed and replaced with apparent semi-circular ebony inserts. Base of the pistol grip exhibits a small drilled hole. Buttstock exhibits a repair / replaced section of wood at the toe. Lyman globe post front sight with Lyman adj. aperture rear sight. Top of bbl. features 2 dovetails for scope attachment. Mag. is absent. CONDITION: metal components retain good amounts of their blue finish, exhibiting spots, patches, and streaks of wear and thinning fading to gray and brown patinas, with consistent light pitting present overall. Buttplate exhibits a patch of moderate pitting. Bright bore, exhibiting some scattered spots of light pitting, while retaining strong rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Stock is good, showing some scattered superficial handling marks, but otherwise remains sound. PROVENANCE: From the Lifetime Collection of Malcolm Zickler, Ret. USAF Lt. Col. (26-689/MLW).
