MILITARY RIFLE. Cal. 30-06. S# 387095. Bbl. 24". Marked inverted on the right side "S-A-11-41". Bbl. is marked on right side over gas cyl. w/ import marks & marked on the left side behind front sight w/ British export proofs. Throat & muzzle gauge less than 1.0. Based on the serial number & bbl. markings, rifle was manufactured in 1941. Flush nut rear sight. Blade front sight w/ protective ears. Plug over sight screw is intact. "SA" marked operating rod is the early type w/o the semi-circular relief cut. Short fork operating follower rod. "SA" marked bolt. Single slot gas cyl. lock screw. Gas cyl. marked on top ahead of handguard w/ "6". Trigger housing, hammer & safety marked "SA". Milled trigger guard. Walnut stock set. Buttstock marked only w/ faint encircled "P" proof under grip. CONDITION: stock set has extensive wear & handling marks throughout commensurate w/ hard service. 3" crack at bottom of forend ahead of magazine well. Front handguard has several long cracks, one of which has neat dovetailed repair. Metal retains 60% of its original worn Parkerized finish, except gas cyl., lock & screw are devoid of finish. Gas cyl. has red paint predominantly on the bottom right side forward of the bayonet lug below front sight. Bore has lightly worn lands & frosted grooves. (25-2926/RW). CURIO. $1,200-1,800.
