MILITARY RIFLE. Cal. 30-06. S# 455870. Rifle was produced in December 1941. Bbl. 24" Marked on right side " S-A-1-42' Marking is inverted. Barrel is marked on the left side behind front sight with British export proofs as required by English law. Throat gauges less than 1.0. Muzzle gauges 1.0. Locking bar aperture rear sight with "battle range" elevation knob. Blade front sight with protective ears. All major parts markings are "SA". Short fork follower rod. Single slot gas cylinder lock screw. Milled trigger guard. Walnut stock set. Buttstock is marked on the right side with boxed "SA /GHS" and "crossed cannons". Encircled "P" proof under grip. CONDITION: Stock set has had a professional restorative cleaning over light wear, staining and handling marks leaving the markings slightly faint. Metal has about 75% of its lightly worn original Parkerizing. Very good shiny bore with sharp lands. PROVENANCE: from the collection of Mark Ivey Godfrey. (24-5243/RW). CURIO. $1000-1500.
