STYLE. Cal. 72, 13 (bore). NSN. 58" Overall. Bbl. 44 1/2" tapered oct. swamped. Rarely seen are European copies of American Kentucky long rifles. This example appears to be just that made late 18th century in lg. military caliber w/ multi groove rifling. There are no external markings other than the lock “DAVID / DIVORNE” most likely Swiss. Rifle is brass mounted including sights. Stock is burl walnut w/ relief & incised carving. Consignor believes there is a connection between the Vorne family of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, which is quite possible as a Swiss gunmaker copying a Lancaster back home. This is not your standard Germanic Jaeger rifle. Condition: very good to fine overall, iron is mottled gray patina, brass has light mustard patina, stock is sound & solid w/ a lg. vertical crack in burl on bottom of buttstock which has been filled. Mechanically fine w/ crisp rifled bore. PROVENANCE: From the Collection of John "Tim" Breth Jr. (01-17797/JS). ANTIQUE. $3,000-4,000.
