TURNER. Cal. 577 Snyder. S# 5628. The 30" blued rnd. bbl. is marked "Thomas Turner. FISHER. STREET BIRMINGHAM" on top in front of folding later type long range sight. S# is on right rear of bbl. in front of crowned Birmingham proofs. Snyder pivoting block action is stamped w/ Birmingham proofs & is otherwise unmarked. Lockplate w/ rnd. bodied hammer is also unmarked. Stock w/ brass forend cap attaches to bbls. w/ 3 split bands; is of lightly figured European walnut & brass mounted w/ heavy buttplate & trigger guard stamped w/ S# "5678". Sling loop attached to front of trigger guard bow holds chain & nipple/firing pin protector. A steel ramrod is present along w/ a brass muzzle plug. CONDITION: fine to very fine. Appears to be rebuilt by Turner. Bbl. retaining approx. 90% original blue. Action refurbished w/ new blue on receiver ring over light pitting. Breech block is polished to bright & also shows considerable overall light pitting. Lockplate retains 20-30% case hardening color. Stock retains most of its original oil finish w/ a considerable number of marks, some fairly heavy, especially on left side panel. The numbers "40" & "90" are stamped either side of buttplate tang. Bore is bright & shiny throughout. Action & lock mechanically good. An attractive Snyder rifle. (01-21079/MGM). ANTIQUE. $600-1,000.
