SXS SHOTGUN. Cal. 10 Ga., 2 7/8". S# 5670. The brown Damascus 32" barrels have matted rib with doll's head extension, bright front bead & engraved "J.P. CLABROUGH & BROS, LONDON, FINE DAMASCUS". Water tables have original London proofs on barrels along with later Birmingham Nitro proofs chambers for 2 7/8" shells. Engraved acanthus scroll engraving on locks & receiver along with engraved pheasants on right lock & quail on left lock. Receiver marked on water table "MAKER'S PATENT ACTION 257764"; forearm iron has "PATENT EJECTOR / 5670 / NP 481290". Small screws in action & forearm iron have nitre blue. Blued top lever, safety switch & triggerguard with border engraving. Triggerguard bow has engraved quail & setter scene. Action has cocking indicators, double trigger & auto-safety. Walnut splinter forearm with Deeley style release, ebony tip, & point pattern checkering. Walnut buttstock with point pattern checkering, fluted comb & horn pistol cap. LOP: 13 3/4" to horn J.P. Clabrough & Bros buttplate. DAC: 1 3/4". DAH: 2 1/8". Cast is neutral. WEIGHT: 8 lbs., 13 oz. BORE DIAMETERS: L - .779", R - .776". CHOKE CONSTRICTIONS: L -.059", R - .055". MINIMUM WALL THICKNESS: L - .042", R - .050". CONDITION: barrels have good damascus pattern with light brown refinish showing scattered cleaning pitting, spots of oxidation & small dents. Receiver has faded case colors in protected interior areas; overall gray patina. Nitre blue has light fading colors. Triggerguard has reblued finish. Very good forearm finish with one small gouge in left barrel channel. Forearm has lightly sanded & refinished wood with recut checkering, crack behind left lock, blistering finish around comb & end of wrist checkering & along toeline. Buttstock has scattered deep impressions mostly along toeline. Good buttplate. Action appears tight on face. Ejectors appear in time. Bright shiny bores with spots of light pitting forward of chambers & one area of fouling in right bore. (01-25336/MD). ANTIQUE. $1,500-2,000.
