MILITARY PINFIRE REVOLVER. Cal. 12mm pinfire. S# 39823. This was among the most popular cartridge revolver in the world at the time of the Civil War, several thousand were imported during the Civil War to both Union and Confederacy. This example has deluxe checkered varnished walnut grips & nicely engraved cylinder, frame, and grip strap. Parts to these revolvers are excavated in Confederate cavalry camps and skirmish areas showing they did see considerable service. Standard configuration, 6 3/8" barrel, patent cartouche on left side of frame. Cylinder is engraved in New York style shell motifs like frame, but with a different serial number; 12710. CONDITION: very good overall, complete and original though cylinder is mismatched number. Smooth gray patina, sharp edges, good markings, strong areas of original finish especially on cylinder, mechanically crisp, bright shiny rifled bore.
