SPORTING RIFLE. Cal. 30-06. S# 939021. Bbl. 24", unmarked & fitted w/ sling band & ramp front sight base holding a tall Lyman bead. Rear portion of bbl. engraved w/ 6" triangle of deeply cut lg. open scroll. This scroll also extends to action which has been fitted w/ Lyman 48 Receiver sight. Bolt body has been engine turned & low scope handle installed. Military style bottom metal engraved w/ matching scroll surrounding silver inlaid mule deer standing under a birch tree. The initials G.F.W. in silver are on trigger guard bow. (Consignor's notes indicate that the rifle was made for Goosvenorr F. Wotkyns who worked at the Springfield arsenal). Capped pistol grip, American walnut stock measures 13 1/2" over steel buttplate. Stock features right hand shadow line cheekpiece, schnabel tip & point pattern checkering at grip & forend. CONDITION: fine, metal parts retain nearly all of what appears to be their custom bright blue finish. Stock shows considerably more wear w/ a lg. number of light marks & a few knocks in its original oil finish. Checkering lightly worn & dirty. Bore is very good w/ a bit of light frosting.
