DATE P.08 LUGER SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL. Cal. 9mm Luger. S# 4888g. Bbl. 4". P.08 Luger semi-automatic pistol mfg. by Mauser for the German military in 1938. The top of the bbl. extension is marked with the 4-digit year of mfg. "1938", with Mauser Eagle/63 proofs and a droop eagle firing proof marked on the right. Toggle is marked with Mauser's "S/42" mfg. code. This example has been masterfully restored, with metal components exhibiting a professionally reapplied blue finish overall, and with some small parts exhibiting either a reheated straw or nitre blue finish. Frame is mounted with 2-piece contemporary hand checkered wood grips, produced by Nill-Griffe. Standard dovetailed blade front sight, with fixed V-notch rear sight. Nearly all serialized parts are matching and include the frame, takedown lever, sideplate, trigger, safety lever & bar, bbl., bbl. extension, trigger bar, breechblock, extractor, firing pin, as well as the toggles. Rear toggle pin is mismatched (S# 95). MAGS: 1 blued 8-rd., with aluminum bottom. Original S# on bottom has been scrubbed, leaving the "O" suffix above a Mauser Eagle/63 proof. CONDITION: exceptional, with metal components retaining virtually all of their meticulously reapplied finishes overall, exhibiting a few spots of light pitting beneath the bluing (primarily around proofs and arsenal markings) overall. Very bright bore, as refinished, exhibiting consistent light to mild pitting, while retaining well defined rifling throughout. Grips are excellent overall. An exceptionally fine and attractively restored example of a 1938 date Mauser P.08 Luger. (25-2387/MLW). CURIO. $1,000-1,500.
