MODEL DOUBLE ACTION REVOLVER WITH INSCRIBED IVORY GRIPS & FACTORY LETTER. Cal. 41 LC. S# 22117. Bbl. 2 1/2". 1877 Thunderer Storekeepers Model double action revolver mfg. by Colt in 1880. The left side of the bbl. exhibits "COLT D.A. 41" within an acid etched panel having Colt's 2-line address marked across the top. Left side of frame is marked with Colt's patent information having "41 CAL" stamped on the rear trigger guard web. Major metal components exhibit a nickel plated finish, w/ some smaller components including the trigger, hammer, and frame screws exhibiting a nitre blue finish. Frame is mounted w/ 2-piece smooth ivory grips & the left grip panel being inscribed, "Compliments/ of/ Tom R. Jennings/ 3.I.W". Half-moon blade front sight plus a frame notched rear sight. All numbers are matching including the frame, trigger guard, rear grip strap plus cyl. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: factory letter indicates that this example was shipped with a 2 1/2" bbl., nickel plated finish, and rubber grips in a shipment of 6 revolvers to John P. Lower in Denver, CO on January 9th of 1880. CONDITION: metal components retain the majority of their original factory nickel plated finish, exhibiting scattered spots of bubbling and flaking overall that show through to a dark gray patina. Nitre blued components retain a mostly gray patina & the trigger plus hammer retaining fair amounts of their original factory finish. Very bright bore, exhibits some areas of light to mild pitting, while retaining well defined rifling throughout. Action functions and indexes appropriately when cycled by hand. Ivory grips exhibit a pleasing yellow patina plus exhibit some scattered marks from handling and storage, but otherwise remain sturdy & serviceable. A very nice example of a desirable Colt 1877 Thunderer Storekeepers Model having period inscribed ivory grips. (01-25275/MLW). ANTIQUE. $1,000-1,500.
