This interesting European sword appears to be an Infantry officer's or ceremonial sword, possibly of Spanish origin, and likely dates to the mid-1800s. It measures 38 1/2 " overall with a plain straight 29 1/2" blade marked near the hilt " P^B " in the center of a sun. Solid brass hilt with a pierced cupped guard and an 8 1/2" crossguard. Plain knuckle bow with an elongated faceted melon pommel and a wire wrapped grip. Brass scabbard. CONDITION: blade has an oxidized patina. The remainder of the sword generally shoes light wear, and some of the grip wire is dislodged. (02-27326/BF). $200-400.
