Overall length: 32 3/4". Blade length: 27". An interesting European, possibly French, heavy saber probably for use by the artillery. Blade has a single, shallow, wide fuller topped by a narrow fuller. Hilt is 2 piece, cast solid brass. The crossguard is 1 piece & is pierced w/ foliate designs. The 1 piece grip & pommel are decorated on the sides w/ an oval bearing classical arms superimposed over flags & other armaments. The backstrap area is engraved, “Taken at Corunna by Capt W Harvey 95th Regt 1809”. The pommel area is a well-articulated eagle’s head w/ the tip of the beak pierced for a ring (not present). No scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a cleaned medium gray finish w/ areas of pitting & nicks to the edge of the blade. Crossguard is slightly bent. Remainder of the hilt is undamaged.
