ORIGIN. This solid steel stiletto measures 10 1/2" in length with a 7” triangular blade. The crossguard has lobed quillons, and the pommel is decorated w/ engraved scenes. The grip appears to be turned steel. Weapons like this could be used as a secondary weapon in the left hand during a sword fight, or were used to spike artillery weapons if capture was imminent. These weapons date from the late 16th century to the early 18th century, and this example appears to be circa 1680. A fine example of a rarely seen weapon from an early period. CONDITION: blade has a medium gray patina w/ minor evidence of cleaned pitting. There is a bit of cleaned pitting on the crossguard, as well as the pommel. The grip area shows light pitting. (02-21139/BF). $500-700.
