Overall length: 23 1/2". Blade length: 18 1/2". A good example of a 19th century European hunting sword, likely of French origin. The slightly curved blade has a single medium sized fuller and is etched over 6” of its length. Etching includes foliate motifs with a dog or lion on both sides. There is a short inscription on both sides that appears to be French. Simple brass crossguard along with a brass ferrule & pommel. Horn grip. No scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a dark, mottled patina but the etching remains visible & reasonably crisp. Hilt has a deep patina and shows light overall wear. (02-20097/BF). $300-450.
