Overall length: 29 1/2". Blade length: 23 1/2". This hunting sword is likely of Germanic origin and dates from the late 18th to the early 19th century. It has a plain, flat, wide blade that has a very slight false edge. The iron guard has 2 bulbous ends with geometric decoration throughout. There is an engraved iron ferrule with a small iron capstan. The 1-piece wood grip has 3 oval iron escutcheons on each side. There is a small iron chain knuckle bow from the top of the grip to the end of one quillon. No scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a medium gray overall patina. Crossguard is loose. Hilt generally shows light to moderate wear with deep patinas. The chain knuckle bow is loose at the crossguard. (02-20101/BF). $400-700.
