Overall length: 30". Blade length: 21 5/8". This hunting sword is likely of Germanic origin and dates from the late 18th to the early 19th century. The blade has a single wide fuller and has gold highlighted etching on a blued field over 7 1/2” of its length. Etching includes a spray of arms, jumping stag, foliate motifs, geometric motifs, a winged head, and a winged heart. The brass guard is of simple cruciform style. Plain brass ferrule. The 1-piece wood grip has 3 oval brass escutcheons on each side. There is an unassociated partial scabbard with this sword. CONDITION: blade has a medium gray overall patina. Gold & blue decorations are about 75%. Brass has a deep mustard patina. It appears the capstan rivet is missing. The unassociated scabbard is missing its bottom section. (02-20103/BF). $400-600.
