This exceptionally well done and authentic looking European medieval broadsword may be a Victorian copy. Nonetheless, it is well executed and of a form and style known to have been used in medieval Europe. The overall length of the sword is 40 5/8" with a 35" central fullered blade with a secondary fullers above and below. The blade has two half moon talismans stamped on each side. Flattened iron crossguard with a hook below one arm. Leather wrapped grip and a 2 1/4" disk pommel with a Roman coin at the center of each side. Both coins appear to be of the Constantine Period. CONDITION: blade has a lightly cleaned dark gray patina. Crossguard and pommel also have a dark patina as do the two bronze coins. Grip is complete and shows light wear. PROVENANCE: Estate Collection of Nicholas Apergis. (02-24777/BF). NON-GUN. $750-1,500.
