Cal. 72. S# 1064. Bbl. 30 1/2". This seldom-seen musket is likely of Spanish origin and was probably originally manufactured as flint and converted to percussion. The round bbl. has a lug front sight and a bladed sight on the nosecap. The octagonal breech is dated "1849" and stamped "1064." It is probably fair to guess the 1849 date indicates the date of conversion, as seen on many Prussian muskets of the era. The lock is marked behind the hammer "1849" and stamped "1064"; the lock also boasts an ingenious folding nipple cover that also functions as a safety. Brass and iron trigger guard, with an iron butt plate and brass side plate, bbl. bands, and nosecap. Both the sling swivels and ramrod are present. The heavy wooden stock is stamped near the butt "1849", "1064", and "6A CA No 6". CONDITION: iron has been cleaned but is reacquiring a light brown patina. Brass has an expected rich mustard patina. Lock holds both full and half cock. Wood shows expected dents and dings, with very minor losses around the ramrod channel. Fair bore. (01-26055/BF). ANTIQUE. $500-800.
