Overall length: 28 1/2". Blade length: 22 1/8”. This short saber appears to be Germanic in origin and was likely used by the Artillery. It has a plain, unmarked, flat blade w/ an iron hilt reminiscent of federal era sabers. Plain guard, knuckle bow, pomme, & backstrap. Single iron wire-wrapped leather grip. Iron mounted leather scabbard w/ a brass “1” affixed to the front of the scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a mottled, medium gray patina. Hilt has a similar patina. Grip shows wear but is nearly complete. Wire is 100%. Scabbard mounts have a cleaned, medium gray patina, and the scabbard remains complete w/ minimal flexing. (02-21370/BF). $400-700.
