Cal. 44 Evans CF. NSN. Bbl. 22" rnd. w/ brass blade front sight & graduated folding leaf rear sight. Bbl. is marked "EVANS REPEATING RIFLE MECHANIC FALLS, ME PAT. DEC. 8, 1858 & SEPT, 16 ,1871". Rounded top receiver w/ lever operated dust cover. 28 rnd. tubular mag. that loads through butt. Schnabel tipped walnut forearm & 2 piece walnut stock. The Evans is the only mass produced rifle mfg. in the state of Maine. Estimated quantity 10,000, 1877-1879. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: the book "Maine Made Guns & Their Makers" by Dwight B. Demeritt, Jr. Book is autographed by author w/ June 30, 1988 date to Bob Chandler who is reputed to have, at one time, owned the largest collection of Evans rifles in the world. Mr. Chandler's name is the first listed on the book's acknowledgement page. CONDITION: 95% heavily polished reblued finish showing scattered spots of remaining pitting. Refinished wood shows scratches & marks. Bore retains intact rifling showing some pitting. (01-18174/DS). ANTIQUE. $2,500-4,000.
