WINCHESTER MODEL 92 TRAPPER LEVER ACTION CARBINE. Cal. 44 WCF (44-40). S# 998381. Bbl. 15’’ w/ pinned blade front sight & carbine leaf rear sight. Full length mag. Correct 7-7/8’’ trapper length forearm. Gumwood stock w/ steel carbine buttplate. Left side of action has staple attached saddle ring w/ leather thong. Mfg. 1929. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms letter to Mr. George Madis dated 1/8/1997. Letter confirms this rifle as being defined as a “curio or relic”. Also included is a copy of a 2 page letter from George Madis detailing the carbine & asking for its exemption. A Doug Turnbull Restoration Inc. invoice dated 6/6/97 shows the cost of restoration to be $4,575. CONDITION: near excellent as expertly restored retaining over 99% bluel. Wood shows small scratches. Forearm is slightly undersized at action showing very small chips on left side. Bore is generally bright showing scattered very light pitting. PROVENANCE: Ex. George Madis Collection. (23-8/DS).
