P.08 LUGER SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL WITH HOLSTER & RELATED CAPTURED ENEMY MATERIAL. Cal. 9x19mm Parabellum. S# 9329d. TBbl. 4". P.08 Luger semi-automatic pistol mfg. at the Mauser arsenal during 1940. The bbl. extension is marked w/ the year of mfg. "1940" over the chamber, having Mauser Eagle/655 acceptance proofs plus an eagle firing proof marked on the right. Toggle exhibits Mauser's "42" clandestine mfg. code. Metal components exhibit a salt blue finish overall. Frame is mounted w/ 2-piece checkered wood grips. Nearly all numbers are matching w/ the only exception being the hold-open latch, which is numbered "39". Secondary aluminum bottom mag. having "+" is matching. MAGS: 2- 8 rd. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Signed statement from the son of the pilot who acquired these items from an officer as the troops surrendered. He was stationed in Italy & regularly flew behind enemy lines for drops and pick ups. brown leather holster maker marked "C.Otto Gehrckens/ PINNEBERG/ 1940" havng an Eagle/WaA279 acceptance proof on the rear, containing 1 spare non-matching mag. and a Mauser Eagle/655 proofed loading tool. Also accompanying this already very nice P.08 is part of a cut Third Reich flag, a partial box of assorted German WWII production 9x19mm Parabellum ammunition, as well as a Luftwaffe NCO visor cap. CONDITION: excellent, with metal components retaining the majority of their original arsenal salt blue finish, exhibiting a few areas of wear in the appropriate places that would be synonymous w/ being carried in a holster (i.e. bbl. at muzzle, sideplate, forward edges of frame rail and toe of frame) having a few areas of light thinning overall. Bbl. extension & toggles exhibit some spots of light to mild wear from cycling of the action. Very bright bore, exhibiting light pitting, while retaining well defined rifling throughout. Grips are very good, showing some light to mild smoothing to the tips of the checkering, as well as a couple sm. impressions plus a few nicks to the diamonds. Holster remains malleable, exhibiting scattered marks from handling & storage, some light age related cracking on the closure flap, as well as some cracking & crazing on the closure flap strap. Partial flag shows some age related discoloration, but is very good overall. Ammunition box is in poor condition w/ ammunition showing varying degrees of oxidation. Visor cap shows a tear, separation, and losses to the stitching on the left side, but otherwise appears to remain structurally sound. A very nice example of a Mauser 1940 production P.08 w/ related captured war memorabilia. (24-1893/MLW). CURIO. $2,000-3,000.
