Overall length: 22". Blade length: 12 3/4". A truly artistic rendition of an Albanian jambiya, of the early to mid 1800s, showing influences from the Ottoman Empire. Blade has a pronounced medial ridge w/ gold inlaid Ottoman motifs near the hilt (see "Arms of the Paladins", pg. 29). 1 Piece walrus ivory hilt of classic, unembellished Albanian form. Wooden scabbard completely covered in tooled sheet silver w/ cast silver adornments. The Ottoman embellishments on this jambiya attest to the spread of Ottoman cultural influence across southeastern Europe. CONDITION: blade has a light gray cleaned finish. Gold inlays are complete. Hilt has a few very minor chips at the top of the pommel. Walrus ivory has a wonderful patina. Scabbard has a rich, dark patina over the silver. (02-13348/BF). $1,000-1,500.
